About Me

Dorothy C. "Thea" Farrell M.Ed., LMHC, DCMHS is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor specializing in individual, couples and family therapy, and maintains a private practice in Falmouth, MA.

With over 25 years experience as an individual, family and couples, and as a graduate of Boston University B.A. in Psychology 1986 and The University of Massachusetts at Boston M.Ed. in Counselor Training 1994 specializing in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Trauma, Child and Adolescent, Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy at the Advanced Level and Holistic Counseling. Office is located in Falmouth. Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy is conducted at Percival Lane Farm in Sandwich. She is currently serving as private practitioner working with a broad spectrum of clients. Among her areas of expertise are Trauma, Anxiety, and Mood Disorders.

In addition Thea has been a Panelist at The American Mental Health Counselors Association National Leadership Conference in July 2014. She was the President of the Massachusetts Mental Health Counselors Association from 2013-2015. LMHC of the Year for Massachusetts 2016. Thea has presented workshops in Trauma Training as well as in Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy.

Thea is an interactive, solution-focused therapist. Her therapeutic approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. She integrates complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client. With compassion and understanding, she works with each individual to help them build on their strengths and attain the personal growth they are committed to accomplishing.

Education

Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Diplomate and Clinical Mental Health Specialist in Trauma, Diplomate and Clinical Mental Health Specialist in Child and Adolescent, CANS Certified/Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths Certification, Master Teacher Shambala Multidimensional Healing (Reiki), and a Level II Usui Practitioner (Reiki).

Trained at the Advanced Levels of both Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy and Equine Facilitated Learning.

President of the Massachusetts Mental Health Counselors Association since 2013-2015, member of their ByLaws Committee 2014-2016, Chair of their Silent Auction Committee 2013-2016, President Elect 2012, and Secretary 2011. She is a member of the American Mental Health Counselors Association; their Nominations Committee for 2013, and has been a member of their Diplomate Committee since 2015.
